The Will The Magdalene Series Book 1 edition by Kristen Ashley Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
This is what Kristen Ashley is all about! The Will is SWEET, SEXY, and ooohhh so full of SWOON! I absolutely loved, loved this book. It reminded me of every single reason why I love getting lost in one of KA's stories. She has such a way with creating magnetic characters with equally enthralling story lines-- truly, there's nothing better.
You will fall madly for Jake Spear as I did. He is fiercely loyal and loving with a deep sense of always needing to protect those he loves. Another KA alpha male to add to the growing list of "must haves" in all my fictional book boyfriends. You'll absolutely love Josie as well. She is strong and independent. Career driven with success under her belt. But deep down, there's a vulnerability that would cripple most people however, as with all of KAs heroines, they persevere and create lives so beautiful it makes you realize how worthwhile the journey to get there is.
I cannot believe it's taken me this long to pick up this book. I loved the heck out of Jake and Josie's story and I'm still riding the high from this one.
This is my second time reading The Will, and after reading again, I know I'll read it more in the future. The Will is THAT good.
This was my first Kristen Ashley book and where I fell in love with her writing and writing style. She can write a female lead and an alpha male like no one else. She excels at making the female someone you want to be friends with and the male someone you want to be with.
Josephine has been around the globe working and being friends with the famous photographers, designers, and musicians. She has to come back to Magdalene because her grandmother, the only family she has, has passed.
Jake Spear is all man - how else can you describe him!? He's a business owner and over the last several years he and his kids have become family to Lydia, Josephine's grandmother.
Josephine and Jake meet at the reading of The Will of Lydia and the story that unfolds is nothing less than amazing. Romance, Alpha-y-ness, banter, laughs, tears. The Will, like all other KA books, has it ALL.
I waited until I read all three books in the series before deciding to leave a review. This one wasn't my favorite but the Hero had less jerk moments than the other two books did.
I typically struggle with the beginning of all of Kristen Ashley books. She really likes her heroes to be big jerks to the heroines in the beginning before they become that hero I love to read about. It's a bit of a love/hate thing for me. I hold a grudge, so depending on how much of a jerk the hero starts out as, depends on how much I can forgive them later.
Jake's jerkiness were pretty minor so I was able to enjoy this couple throughout most of the book. I also liked the kids. Amber wasn't fun at first but Josephine had class and won her over pretty quickly. What I liked the most about this is that these two were mostly together than apart even when they weren't officially together yet. I love reading about a couple working together. It's one of my favorite things. I also love that she had so many people in her life who had her back even when she didn't realize it. I can see myself re-reading this one.
4.5 stars
I read a number of nasty reviews that criticized the accent the heroine had in this story, and I'll admit, it is a little odd at first. However, as you continue to read, Josie's accent totally makes sense and helped to shape the funny and loving character she is.
Josie's parents sucked. Her grandmother Lydia raised her and was the only person Josie could depend on. After falling for the wrong guy in college, Josie leaves town to work with a successful photographer and travel the world. Lydia has her come to visit often and decides to push a man into her life that Lydia knows will make Josie happy.
Jake has been married three times, all of which were bad choices that resulted in failed marriages. But he ended up with his kids, Conner, Amber and Ethan, all three of which are wonderful. Jake does everything he can to provide for them and he's an amazing dad and man. He and kids grow close to Lydia and love her like family. Jake had no idea the gift Lydia would leave him in her will would change his life and bring his and Josie's lives together.
Like I mentioned above, Josie's accent is a little hard to get used to, but it suited her and helped develop her character. I loved Jake and Josie together and absolutely adored his three children.
This was a beautiful story of finding love and happiness and happy endings. As with all KA books, I loved it and can't wait to see what's up next from this author.
