This STORY was too SHORT for me. It was so good I hated to see it end. I really enjoyed Mason 's passion for Kayden , it could be felt in the writing. I thought Kayden was sweet and lovable and felt his anxiety and pain. I loved that they found a way to be together despite all the obstacles they were faced with. Thank you Scarlet for writing this. This book was stunning! Tough cop Mason and protected witness Kayden thrown together to keep Kayden alive. Great premise and the story just gets better. They are an unlikely couple but they just work. Kayden is just so sweet you want to protect him (hence the title-lol). Mason does much soul searching and wants to give up everything to be with his man. Does he or doesn't he? Just read it!!! This book is just too good! I love Scarlett's work and this one is no exception!
Nothing memorable about this one. The instant love thing which started off with sex is the usual. These two guys hardly had any emotional connection, even when they were together in the second part. Too much sex which just acted as filler. Then there is Mason's character. He was supposed to be a homicide detective but Mason really came across pretty lame. Mason not able to control his sexual urges during those times he was guarding Kayden was just plain ridiculous. Nothing sexy but just the stereotype MM and questioned the credibility of law enforcement. Still I do like Kayden's character and his love for birds added a fondness to this character. Also the following up after Kayden had disappeared in the witness protection program was a nice angle. Another little niggle I have is whether it was just so easy for these two as Kayden was still under witness protection. I like her writing but this same type of format is getting stale.
I didn't care for this book that much usually I like cop stories but I mostly just skipped there it the book was well written just not my cup of tea
So, with this book, I expected the usual cop has to protect witness, and they fall in love in the process. Then all hell breaks loose, and they have to go on the run or get killed. But with this story, part of it right. Mason is assigned to protect Kayden, and they are instantly drawn to each other. That said, I was waiting for something to happen, for someone to come gunning for Kayden, but that never happened. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind it one bit. The story is about the after affects of going into witness protection. They have fallen in love, and after Kayden testifies, he's gone... swept away to a new place, with a new idenitiy. And Mason has no idea where he is. It was a refreshing book, in that it was different from the norm. Stories out there are more about the during, not the after. I like all stories that are based on 'the witness needs protecting' but this one is good, cause it breaks from the norm, and is written very well. As all Scarlet's books are.
The characters are great, the storyline is solid... It's just a good read.
I like that the story puts a different spin on witness protection and that these men were already gay and not battling the 'coming out' demon. Well done! Definitely worth the read.
